Friendly Moving Advice

The average Canadian moves anywhere between 4.5 and 5.5 times in their life. Our team of professional movers, on the hand, move every single day – sometimes more than once! And you know what they say – practice makes perfect. When you pack, load, and unpack as often we do, you start to pick up more than a few tricks of the trade. In fact, we’ve created and refined our moving technique so we can offer the best moving services in Toronto. Today, we’d like to share our top tips for executing the smoothest move possible.

Downsize
Do yourself a favour and trim the fat. Look over your belongings with a discerning eye and check for any items that are broken. There’s no need to haul unusable appliances or knickknacks to your new place, so these things can find their way into your garbage or recycling bins immediately. Next on your docket, evaluate your remaining belongings and ask yourself two question. One, have you used this particular item in the last 6 months, and two, is the item in question something you plan on using in the future? If you answer ‘no’ to both of these, then it’s time to get rid of them. Rather than throwing these items away, we suggest you sell them for profit, give them away to charity, or gift to a friend or family member who could use it. Once you go through every one of your rooms with this plan in mind, you’ll be surprised by how much stuff you get rid of!

Start Early
Some of you won’t have this luxury, especially if you’ve found out you have to move last-minute for a job, but if you know of you move-in date months in advance we suggest that you use all of those months to prepare. Imagine waiting until the very last minute to pack your entire home. It’s stressful when you’re working against the clock. It can go a lot smoother if you tackle a few boxes each day. Before you know it, you’ll have most of your house packed and ready to go – with time to spare. If, however, time isn’t on your side, we always provide helpful packing service. We’re quick, efficient, and careful with your belongings, so we can get your belongings packed promptly and loaded safely in our trucks.

Pack an Overnight Bag
Chances are you won’t want to start unpacking your entire life’s belongings on the very same day you move in. For most people, this takes a few days, weeks, or even months to complete. To make your first night in the new home easier, it’s a good idea to pack yourself a bag or box of the essentials. In this container, store all of the basics you’ll need for sleeping, eating, hygiene, and cleaning. That way you won’t have to root through box after box in order to find what you need. Spare clothes and toiletries are pretty self-explanatory, but we suggest packing a light lunch or two in a cooler so that you don’t have to rely so heavily on take-out.

Hire Movers
We’ve all moved on our own or with the help of a few dedicated friends. It’s usually when we’re fresh out of university, are moving to a bachelor apartment, and don’t own a lot of stuff. By the time you’ve started a family and are moving to a 3-4 bedroom house, it’s a different story. You have enough belongings to fill all of that space, and a lot of it consists of large, heavy, or awkward appliances. While it’s easy enough to pack and lift boxes full of books or kitchen supplies, it’s another thing to move a fridge or a grand piano. That’s where we come in. We have the correct equipment to make short work of any item in your home, and our expert movers know exactly how to move your stuff to ensure the safety of the crew and the integrity of your belongings are maintained
